Student Life Must-Do Traditions

Alma Mater

Hail alma mater! OUR UMBC,
Boldly bearing your colors, the whole world to see,
Striving together in true unity,
Black, gold forever we're reminded of thee,
Proudly we hail to thee, OUR UMBC!

Throughout the ages, OUR UMBC,
Songs and memories still echo with true clarity,
Knowledge and wisdom and truth we found here,
Friendships we treasure that will last through the years,
Proudly we hail to thee, OUR UMBC!

UMBC's alma mater debuted in 2006 in conjunction with the 40th anniversary festivities. The tune is American Hymn by Matthias Keller, and the lyrics and arrangement are by Jari Villanueva, former director of UMBC's pep band.

Welcome Week

Beginning on new student move-in day, Welcome Week kicks off the academic year with a week (actually, longer!) of fun, social, and integrative activities. The program is designed to help you meet students, prepare for your academic career at UMBC, embrace campus traditions and learn more about student life on- and off-campus.

For all the details on Welcome Week, including the schedule, please visit the Welcome Week website!

Involvement Fest

Involvement Fest is the premier involvement event on campus designed to connect interested students with student organizations and involvement opportunities. I-Fest is hosted at the beginning of each semester, and it's an incredible opportunity! Student organizations host tables with information and interactive exhibits to share information about their club with the UMBC community and welcome new members. It's the greatest, comprehensive opportunity for students to review the immense selection of student organizations on campus. Get involved!

Homecoming Bonfire

In October, join the UMBC community on Erickson Field for UMBC's traditional bonfire and Homecoming kick-off, complete with yummy treats, music and fun for all! For more details on Homecoming, including the schedule, please visit the Homecoming website.
